No Coincidences

I put Frontline Plus on my Libbie on Thursday. She died on Monday from IMHA. I killed her. She was already showing signs of a weakened immune system and I went ahead and did this.

Becky- I know you are obviously still dealing with the grief and shock over the loss of your dog, but how do you know this was the trigger? If it was stated by your vet etc., Frontline needs to be notified of this event with medical evidence.

Re: No Coincidences

She was being doctored for asthma and arthritis. She was in a weakened condition and I went ahead and gave her poison. What else could it be? I am going to the vet's today to get her records. I will talk to one of them there. but here is what they will say--yes, it could have been but there is no way of knowing. Or if I say maybe it was the antibiotic--they will say yes, it could have been but there is no way of knowing. I have always been frustrated that I never learn as quickly as others--in school I guess it didnt matter so much. In life it does--it causes death. Why oh why did I do this when my first inclination was maybe I shouldn't do that butIdon't want a flea infestation--I was so stupid I asked one of the workers at the vet's office if it was time to start frontline--I mean these are people more stupid thatn I am. For a while I am going to find answers--everyone says I won't find them but at least I feel like I am doing something.

Re: No Coincidences

As your vet said " there is no way of knowing for sure". As I said yesterday, this disease shows up fast, moves fast, and almost nothing can be done to stop it once the symptoms show up.
It sounds like to me there is alot of guilt here on your part. Maybe grief counciling would help? I went to one years ago when I lost Buddy. It really did help alot...

Femka had a bad reaction to Bio-spot. Good thing I was home as it put her into seizures. I can not use that stuff on her at all. But that doesn't mean she has IMHA.

Borziomom
I know you say it shows up fast and then there is littlethat can be done, but I still don't understand this--with all the symptoms goingback to November --did that show she had a weakened immune system and then something like frontline or a pill pushed her into the anemia right before her death? Am I getting this right--then a dog could have immune deficiency and lead a long life if nothing ever triggered it--is this right? I am sorry to ask so many questions--just can't wrap my mind around this.

It sounds like to me you are understanding this condition pretty well. If a dog has a hidden immune deficency, then yes- some things can be a trigger. Meaning- the immune system is already stressed, and adding more stress can be " the straw that broke the camels back". Knowing this is why I use only killed vaccines, follow Dr.Dodds shot regeime, watch my chemicals and provide by diet immune building nutrients. ( even little things like vitamin C etc).
As I keep reading your posts, I see the dog was showing signs of allergies etc. Allergies can be triggered by auto immune mediated disorders as well. Did your vet ever do a thyroid test on your dog? Just asking. Thyroid conditions are one of the outward signs of possible auto immune problems or condition. I have studied this aspect of it because of my breed. While other things are not present in the breed ( HD etc) they can have thyroid conditions and by coincidence- auto immune triggered disorders or condition.
The only thing I do wish you would listen with your heart- is that once the condition shows up, there is nothing that can be done. I know I sound like a broken record here- but really- hear that with your heart..

Re: No Coincidences

Thank you for being so patient. My vets never ran any tests. I am going to get records today but things started coming back to me last night. Last summer, her asthma was very bad. I live in the middle of farm country--last year corn surrounding my house. We were in a drought so she stayed in basically all summer. They gave her prednisone shots--two of them--she had had them before but one would always do it. The third time I brought her in he didn't want to use anymore prednisone. He gave her amanophyline for severe attacs and an antihistamine everyday. It worked for a year then in November everything went haywire. I know I will never find an answer but right now I am just beside myself. I feel guilt when a bird dies in my yard. My horse died of eye cancer two years ago-I held her halter as he put her to sleep. I didn't catch it in time. My sister took her life--I didn't help her in time. I just am so beside myself. Thank you for being so patient.
