Coughing I think

Hi,

I am trying to figure out what could be going on with my dog I am not sure but I do think he's coughing or possibly hair being in his throat.. I never saw him doing this a lot in my old house but I ended up moving so the Dog Town Rescue people who I got my dog from said they would take care of Tux until I was able to get him back.. Well I have him back now and he seems to be doing this every single day sometimes in the morning, and sometimes at night time.. Sometimes he does it for a while too he'll do it for a minute or 2 and then stop and then start again for at least 15-30 minutes.. I am not sure what it could be or what could be causing it.. I am trying to get a better video of him doing it but I do hope this one is good enough..

My dog is also healthy.. A healthy weight, and his coat is shiny too.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Welcome to DF.

If he was at Dog Town Rescue for any length of time he may have kennel cough. Or maybe he is reverse sneezing. If it continues I would have him examined by his vet.

Re: Coughing I think

My dog just got over "kennel cough". Also, when I went to the vet, she told me kennel cough is just a word-all for minor colds in dogs. They don't necessarily get it directly from other dogs.

Kennel cough can go away on its own. We went to the vet to see if it was serious (it sounded BAD) but it was really minor. She said meds were optional because it may not even help- could be bacteria or viral. She said it usually goes away on its own. We didn't get the meds and in a few days, gone. Note that dogs are still contagious for a week, don't take him to dog parks etc.

Your dog sounds different than mine though. Oskar had a hacking cough and sneezing.

I'd go to the vet just to get it checked out, especially if it lasts more than a few days. If he isn't going potty, could be blockage and its best to take him right away.

Re: Coughing I think

Looks like reverse sneezing. Google "reverse sneezing in dogs".
