Re: anel glands

Usually dogs get anal gland infections and other problems when they aren't expressed. I've had to take Teddie in a few times since I got him so they don't get impacted or infected. I actually just had them done a week ago and we're having more problems.

Food shouldn't be the problem. I'd ask your vet about the infections and why they're coming so offten or even at all. Has your vet told you would could be causing it?

Re: anel glands

Sometimes adding extra fiber to the food can help, such as canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), or even a high fiber breakfast cereal or metamucil mixed with her food. Check with your vet for the proper amount to give her.

Also, for more severe infections, often the doctor will "flush" the anal sacs directly with an antibiotic. It's more effective than an oral antibiotic, but some dogs may require a mild sedation for the process.

For really, really bad cases, the anal sacs can be removed surgically.
