excessive peeing

I have a 15 week old Boxer and have been having multiple problems. He initially had a good appetite and then for about two weeks, he didn't want to eat. That seems to have resolved. The latest issue is him not being able to hold his urine. We started off slowly, both my husband and I taking turns coming home at lunch and letting him out. Gradually, we extended that for an hour here and there. Eventually, he was doing great holding it all night and up to 9 hours during the day. When he started losing his appetite, I took both a stool and urine sample to the vet. Urine was fine. Stool had an intestinal parasite and he was prescribed Albon. Since he's been taking that, he drinks in large quantities and can't hold his urine while awake longer than 30 minutes or so and while asleep, no longer than 4 or 5 hours. I just took another urine sample to the vet and will get the results tomorrow. The vet also prescribed an anitbiotic, Clavamox, for 21 days. I'm very frustrated. Clearly, there is something wrong. He will go out and pee and then 15 minutes later, he pees somewhere in the house. Even when outside, once he pees, if I take him for a walk, he just stops midstep to pee. Please help.

Re: excessive peeing

This is really hard, each pup is different. I'm glad you’re working with your vet on this. I found this info... On average, puppies can hold their bladders one hour for every month they have been alive, plus one hour. For example, if you have a three month old puppy, he can wait 3 + 1 = 4 hours. 9 hours is a very long time for a pup to hold is urine. Possibly it would be best to have someone come in at 4 hours and let him out. Perhaps the meds for the parasites and antibiotics is not helping the situation either.

Gracie (my youngest) did the same thing. As a pup she had Giardia, and megaesophagus she had two different medications. She went outside to urinate and then would come in the house and do the same. I had her urine tested a number of times and it always came back clear. She's 14 months old now, no longer on meds and has seemed to grow out of it.

Keep working on it, and if you feel there is something more wrong I would get a second opinion. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: excessive peeing

Thanks for the feedback. Problem solved. The vet confirmed a bladder infection.
