Exclamation Need Help

I have a 3 month old mixed breed puppy I got from a friend who will not eat. I tried to force feed him once and got him to eat a little bit. He won't drink either. He is scared of EVERYTHING! I try to give him a bath and he screams so loud I fear my neighbors will call the police thinking I am abusing him and I'm not, he is just so darn scared of water! He won't even get up off the coutch unless I make him, he sleeps ALL day and night! His breathing is very erratic too. He breaths VERY fast. He smells like he is rotting too, ALWAYS passing gas and it will clear the house out it is so horrable!

Re: Need Help

Put him in a place that is quite and away from everyone, put the food and water down and leave him alone. DO NOT force him to eat, it will make the fear worse. Just give him time.

It's normal for pups to sleep ALOT when they're young, but if it's excessive or if hte pup is lethargic, get him to a vet ASAP. He probably needs a vet check anyhow so make the appointment.

Re: Need Help

I always have new dogs checked out by our vet within the first 48 hours. First you need to assess with the vet whether this puppy is healthy. Take along a FRESH stool sample.

And when you say he eats nothing, does that mean nothing, nada, no treats, no table food...what about water? Is he urinating? The vet will want to know this.

Re: Need Help

Excellent advice given. The pup must have been severely tramatized and it doesn't sound like he is in good health. I would definitely have the puppy examined by your vet tomorrow (Friday). Please do not delay.

Good luck and let us know what the vet says.

Re: Need Help

He does urinate but its a VERY dark yellow, almost orange. And if you would consider that eating, he does compleatly chew up and swallow the rawhide we give him. His stool is red and runny with mucus in it and it smells BAD!!!

VET NOW
that is a sick puppy
VET NOW

sorry to yell but the smelly red poop and the dark urine are NOT good signs and that puppy may easily die without a vet check immediately.....

I am very concerned about Parvo..... if it is parvo that is life threatening..... and talk to your vet about Tamiflu to fight the parvo.... if that is what it is.... its an off label use but works well

go to the VET

Re: Need Help

I am sorry to say this but the longer you wait
you may not need to worry about it because if that puppy has parvo..... it will die sooner than later if you don't go to the vet.....

I am sorry that you are concerned about cost....and I realize that not everyone is made of money..... but if you want that puppy to survive then you need to figure it out.... but that pup needs a vet

Re: Need Help

Call the humane society i'm sure they will have numbers to lower cost vets.

But like everyone has said you need to go to the VET NOW. the longer you wait the more expensive it will be anyways.

Re: Need Help

I agree with Shalva ... ask the vet if he can arrange a payment plan usually they do.

Get the pup to the vet and worry about money after as you'll find a solution.
