Adopting a dog with Demodex Mange

Hi. I am going to be getting a dog with demodex. She was on treatment from the vet, but her owner said it made her super depressed. So i have been looking around and have a few products to ask about.
First is Nu-Stock, anyone tried this, it has some good reviews, but i would like some other opinions.

And then there is "Neem Oil" anyone used this with any success?

Thanks in advance,
Amber

I'd like to know what the dog was on, because there is no way it would make her depressed.

I had a foster who had demodex and we used goodwinol ointment because he was to younge to be dipped. Depending on this dogs age she needs to be dipped to get rid of the mites.

Re: Adopting a dog with Demodex Mange

We have a pug with Demodex mange. ( almost all cured by now thank fully) We had to take her off the prescription meds due to her being pregnant so i tried everything I could.
Neem Oil is very good BUT i was told by the place i got it from to put it directly on her. ( NOT A GOOD THING) it made her very red, almost like a burn. Alsoit is very stinky , i mean horrible.

Now this is what she getsdone to her.

Everyday she gets 2 brewers yeast with garlic tablets and one multi vitamin
Everyday she gets aloe vera gel applied to her balding spots and under her chin on neck.

Every 3 daysshe gets abath with pyoben medicated shampoo ( I also pour some neem oil in the bath water and oatmeal bath.

If i notice a spot that looks new or worse, I apply Benzol perozide ointment ( people zit cream) to the spots and rub it in.

She was pretty bad but has now almost completely healed.

Possible side effects of Mitaban Dip: If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving Mitaban Dip and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; swelling of the lips, tongue or face; hives), a severe headache, restlessness, agitation, or irritability, sweating, convulsions, uncontrollable or irregular movements. Other less serious side effects may occur. Continue giving Mitaban Dip and talk to your veterinarian if your pet develops dizziness or drowsiness, nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhea, insomnia, mild confusion, agitation or anxiety, dry mouth. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal. (1800petmeds.com) Some of these are also symptoms of depression.

She has almost no fur, she is not red, scabby or bleeding, but her skin is rough and scaley. She is a great dog! listens well, house trained and very calm.

I had a jack russel several years ago with this and my Vet told me NOT to breed her. It is genetic.

I've used nu stock and its a great product. Never for demo but I hear it works wonders there too. You could talk to a vet and see what they think about alternatives to the dip. I've heard some very bad reactions to the dip. Most widely used is ivomectin.
