Dog losing weight

Hello, this is my first time posting here. I have a Staffordshire terrior mix who we adopted last June. When we first got him he was 49lbs, and we were told he would probably put on some weight now that he was in a stable home. He actually lost a few pounds and was down to 47 in January. He was at the vet in early and again in mid February where he was down to 96 lbs. So we increased his food (we were already giving him twice the recommended amount). For the last two weeks he has seemed hungry all the time. He's barely going to the bathroom, even though we have increased his food. So when we went to the vet this weekend for shots, he was down to 42lb! Thats 4 lbs in two weeks. He tested negative for worms and we were told we need to be watching his weight and bring him in regularly just to weigh.

My question is has anyone had an issue with their dogs loosing weight that was not because of worms? This dog was already pure muscle, with no fat. He is walked twice a day and is very high energy. I am just worried that there might be something really wrong with him. He seems fine except that he is looking gaunt and he is constantly begging for food, even though we are feeding him constantly with no gain.
