Puppy Acting Lethargic

Hi all,

I have a fourteen week old chihuahua that's been acting very lethargic this morning. I woke up to feed her at 8AM this morning, and she slept in bed with me until 11. Usually she's playful after we get up, but today she went and got in her bed and that's pretty much where she's been all day.

She's been eating fine, and got out of her bed when I was in the kitchen to let me know that she was hungry. She's been drinking water, and her stool is normal. She's still alert, as she wakes up and looks at me whenever I walk by (I've been doing laundry while her bed is in the living room, so I've been going in and out).

She has gotten out of her bed a few times; once, like I said, to come in the kitchen for me to feed her, another time she following me into my closet and was rustling around in the dirty clothes pile, and a third time to eat a couple of pieces of kibble and to drink some water.

She just hasn't been as playful as she normally is. Do you think she's just having a lazy day, or could she not be feeling well?

Since there's nothing terribly alarming in what you've described, I'd just keep an eye on her for a while. If the lethargy continues, or if she gets ANY worse, even just a little bit, I'd call the vet immediately. Those tiny dogs can go downhill fast.

I'd watch her close tonight and call the vet in the morning. They'd be more familiar with her as they have her med history. Willowy's right little ones can go down hill very fast.
