new mommy dog with bad teat

I have a mix breed who just had puppies about 4 weeks ago. I go out to the heated garage every day and clean up and feed but when I went out today I found mama dog looking a little fatter than she did a couple days ago. Then I saw her teat had some hair missing on the side of it and there looked to be a hole on the side with some chapping of the side of the teat, but no swelling. She is acting normal and the teat doesn't seem to be bothering her. What do I need to do? Is there something I can do without taking her to the vet? My husband and I both just lost our jobs and can't afford a hefty vet bill right now. I am just worried about her and I don't want the puppies to get sick.

Excuse me....But if you were worried about her you would take her to the vet. If you cant afford vet care..why are you letting your girl get pregnant?

Your girl can have an infection that can kill her and the pups.If not treated promptly

She needs to be seen by a vet. We cannot diagnose her problem over the internet, nor can we treat it since she will needs meds that you can't get over the counter.

Digits mama-Well, if I would have known that we were BOTH going to lose our jobs, I really woldn't have let that happen. But, you really can't plan for something like that.We have just had a run of unfortunate luck.

I am just asking for some advice for her. Thanks.

OK. Thanks AnimalCraker
