Question Acting like he has to vomit

My 10 year old mixed black retriever started a few monthes ago opening his
mouth acting like he had to vomit , but lately he's been doing it several times
a day , it only last for about 10 seconds and then he's fine, I have not
determined as yet whether its more after he eats or not. Have thought
maybe he needs digestive enzymes , have given him acidophillus once in
awhile . He very seldom actually vomits , its just the motion that lasts
seconds. He does eat alot of grass, not constipated , barks , plays , sleeps
more because of his age.??????anyone have any thoughts?? He does have
a few other things like hip, and I think some allergies that I will ask about
at a later time.

Thanks Lei

He could have something caught in his throat. I'd take him to a vet to have him checked out just to be safe.

you might also have him tested for heartworms if he is not on a preventative and or have him checked for other heart problems due to his age.

My flat coated retriever does this. He opens his mouth, makes an awful vomiting sound simlar to dry-heaves. Nothing comes out, ever.

He has the canine equivilant to acid reflux, and the vet is helping us with ways to improve it.
