shaking head, vet says no infection

Hi, my dog has been shaking her head (itching her ear) for the last 1-2 weeks. The vet saw him 2 times and he said everything looks fine in the ear.

we have been giving her otomax, which helps after a week, but shaking and itching comes back as soon as we stop using it...

Do you know what other stuff might be causing this that the vet might have 'forgotten' about?

It could be allergies. Has the vet checked for that? If not I would ask. Is your dog scratching anywhere else?

no, he did not. how do they check dogs for allergies?

she occasionally licks her paws, itches her front paw joints. She also went bold on the chest, and that boldness is expanding to her neck, which the vet thinks is seasonal boldness (she is a miniature dachshund, and it seems like this is kinda of a common issue with them).

A little note, in case this is relevant- we were using Innova Evo, but the vet said the protein was really too high in that one (about 52%), might damage her kidneys, and we should switch to something with <40% protein level, so I'll switch to Wellness Core in a few days.

Riley was shaking and shaking his head recenbtly--he used to get ear infections which you can tell by the smell and discharge, color of the cotton ball when you clean the inside of the ear--anyway, I cleaned his ear and it was fine, clear as a bell but he kept shaking his head--the next day I went to clean again and there was an at least 1/4" sappy thin twig in his ear I pulled out--I couldn't believe it, Iwas going to save it to show people but I thought I would really freak them out---also,check the hair on and around the ear to be sure there is no burr or twig that can be poking him/her
