Heartgard vs Interceptor?

I've only had experience with Heartgard with all my previous pups, but the only heartworm preventative my vet carries is Interceptor. I've always found my dogs love the taste of Heartgard, and Maisy hates the Interceptor since I have to force her to take it (she spits the tablet out of anything I hide it in, and will not eat it alone)

My vet is wonderful - but has NO people skills. Anyone use both of these before? Which one do you prefer? I assume that as a preventative they both work about equally as well.

I'm contemplating after this 6 month run is out having the vet fax a prescription for Heartgard to Drs Foster and Smith's catalog pet pharmacy and going back to what I know.

Check to see if Heartgard takes care of whipworms. I seem to recall it doesn't. I know a dog who got whipworm and it was nasty. My dog eats Interceptor like a treat. I guess he has limited taste buds.

I prefer Interceptor, since it covers more intestinal parasites, and costs a little less than Heartgard.

I hide the pill in a tiny, marble-sized "meatball" of canned dogfood and Beav scarfs it down like it's nothing. But if I try to hide it in cheese or something, he'll eat around it.

I also prefer Interceptor. My vet only offers HeartGard, but I don't want the collies and sheltie on it because of the ivermectin(3 out of 4 collies have a serious reaction to ivermectin). She just writes me a prescription so I can get it at the local vet supply store

Heartguard doesn't cover whips. If you pup doesn't eat the tablets try giving in a bit of cheese or peanut butter. I have collies also so I only give Inceptor.

I prefer Interceptor. My Chihuahuas LOVE it, but my Anatolian doesn't - I just give it to him like a pill, open the mouth, down the throat, rub & swallow!
