Re: Runny Poop!

Did you change his diet? Maybe give him a new kind of treat? Did he go on any kinds of medicines? Did he just get vaccinations? There are a million things that can cause diarhea, from extremely minor (usual cause) to serious (things like Parvo). Any additional information would help.

it's always a good sign when they continue to eat and drink, so while a vet visit is a good idea for a pup so young, it's good that he is staying hydrated and taking in proper nutrients.

Re: Runny Poop!

no i have not changed anything at all but him drinking more water now instead of his milk. could that be it? its not boiled water, just tap. he has been wormed, his 1st distemper shot, nutrical. he was given clean bill of health when he went last week. so do you think he really needs to go to the vet?

Re: Runny Poop!

are you giving him regular cow's milk? or milk formulated for puppies?

Also, depending on where you are, tap water might not be such a good idea. Parasites and such can still live in the water. I would suggest either investing in a Brita type water filter or giving your dog bottled water. My dog only drinks bottled water. Your dog is so small and so young, his immune system can't fight off things that older bigger dogs can. Just because your pup is so small and so young, I would still bring him to the vet- just to be safe. Raising such little dogs at a young age like that, it takes very little to make them sick...

Re: Runny Poop!

milk formulated for puppies, thank you 4 the advice ! he peeped out the tap water, so his stool is firming up some now. I will give him nothing but bottled water 4 now on. but i will stilll take him to vet to be safe. I will let you know what the vet said. thanks again

Re: Runny Poop!

In a 7 week old puppy with diarrhea my first thought would be worms. As long as he is eating and drinking ok and not lethargic I would have a fecal check done at the vet to see if he has roundworms.

Re: Runny Poop!

a change in water can cause "dire rear"

a change in environment can cause "dire rear" ie. stress

a change in food can cause "dire rear"

worms and parasites can cause "dire rear"

the problem that you have here is a puppy that is significantly too young to be away from his mother and a toy breed at that..... the stupid breeder did you no favors by letting you take him so young......

this is a puppy that is going to need to go to the vet often because you are not going to be able to take a wait and see attitude.... with a puppy this tiny and young I would not feel comfortable telling you to watch him for a bit and see....

a puppy that young and that small with loose stools can go downhill fast and become dehydrated very quickly......

I think a vet visit is in order..... you need to get that puppy stabilized and keep him alive for the next month or so and then you might find yourself on an even keel but the next month or so is going to be crucial and the most dangerous time......

I just can't imagine..... I have to say this absolutely infuriates me..... (not you, but the fact that your breeder had so little concern for this baby)

good luck

Re: Runny Poop!

Update everything can back neg. they gave in a pill for worms just in case & prescr. food. told me to stop giving him puppy milk since he is eating dry food already. Also told me to watch to see if it clears up tomorrow if not then they may have to give him meds.
And yes i am very angry the breeder gave him to me so early!!
