| Re: Begging for water? Thanks everyone!
He's one sick puppy right now though. While we were in, we got his next round of vaccinations done and sent some dewormer through. So... he has a UTI, diarrhea, and is feeling kinda sluggish from the vaccines. I feel bad for him .
On a side note, I brought a fresh stool sample in with me, but they went ahead and dewormed him anyway. After the fact, they say "By the way, his stool came back negative, so that's good!". Why did they give dewormer then? In the future should I wait on stool results before letting them deworm? I hate causing him any extra discomfort (and spending useless money). |

| Re: Begging for water? I'm not sure what to tell you about the dewormer...Zoe had worms every time we brought her to the vet as a puppy. I'm thinking that until he's old enough to be on a monthly wormer, this is his only way of having any immunity to the pesky parasites?? Not sure on that though...coming from someone who spent $1500 on emergency vet care when Zoe fell extremely ill with worms at 13.5 weeks, I'd suggest spending the 10 bucks or whatever to have a dewormer just in case rather than risk him having worms that didn't show up in the stool sample.
I am SO glad to hear that he has a UTI...not only because he doesn't have a larger problem, but because that means that you are not as screwed on potty training as you'd thought! I'm sure he'll pick it up really quickly once he's feeling better.
And I sympathize with your worrying...anything that was ever wrong with Zoe when she was that little, I immediately assumed the worst. I think it's because they're still so little, just babies really, and they can go from bad to worse so quickly (as in the worms episode I mentioned above). It won't be long before Rocky's grown up to be a hearty young lad and you won't have to worry so much about him...of course, you will still worry.. |

| Re: Begging for water? Oh, I'll still worry for sure, but you're right about puppies - they can go from being totally healthy to being in dire straits pretty fast. It doesn't help that they take everything in stride and don't show any discomfort til it's too late!
I'm not too worried about the potty training thing though. In fact, it was his potty training that made me realize something was wrong in the first place. Until this showed up, he hadn't had an accident inside for 2 weeks and was sleeping through the night already. The worst part about this isn't even the accidents or taking him out so often, it's that he hasn't learned an effective way of telling me he has to go out, so he just does the one thing he KNOWS will get my attention - being naughty. He starts biting, chewing shoes, digging at the rug - all the stuff he knows he shouldn't do. And since he has to go so often he's almost constantly doing bad things . At least I know it's not a true regression in his training, just a symptom of the UTI. |

| Re: Begging for water? Oh my god... the culture/sensitivity came back... the results? "No abnormal bacterial growth"
The fricking vet told me he had a UTI, and now that they sent it in to a lab for culture nothing grew! Now he has to go in tomorrow for blood tests to try to rule out kidney issues . I thought it was all over.. things just look much worse now |

| Re: Begging for water? Had blood work sent in today... should get results back Tuesday. Going to be a long weekend.
edit -- omg I almost forgot. They scared him so bad when they took blood that he expressed his anal glands... all over their table, lab and paperwork. I'm pretty sure he was getting revenge.
