| I've never heard of Schnauzer Bumps. Let me guess, a breeder told you about it.
Allergies in dogs is very common, and it is not easy trying to figure out what the allergy is to. It is usually a life long problem which flares up repeatedly. I think most doctors will try a novel protein diet first which is a special diet you usually get from the vet that doesn't have any of the most common ingredients in it. Some examples are Fish and Potato, Venison and rice, etc.. The food trials are usually done for 3 months to see if they make a difference. The dog needs to be on only that diet, and nothing else.
If that doesn't work, then there are different drugs that can be tried depending on what kind of problems it is, which the vet may need to do tests to find out. Many times antihistamines, antibiotics, and antiinflammatories are used. A veterinary dermatologist is not a bad idea if your vet is having trouble getting this under control. |
