So my little 5 month old Papillon is notably going through her teething. Last night at puppy kindergarten a molar fell out, plus her little dog biscuits are harder for her to crunch up.
My question is.....should I leave her kibble meals the same as always, or should I moisten up the kibble for her? She does not appear to have trouble, but if she's hungry enough she could crunch through the pain I suppose.
(PS....I kept the little molar & I think the tooth fairy may show up tonite with a little puppy ice ring teether!!)
Poor baby. Why not just add a bit of warm water to soften the food for her for awhile? I found my dogs always ate better when that was done anyway, the warm water seemed to bring out the flavour. Mind you, I usually added a bit of canned food too, that helped. Make sure that tooth fairy does her job !
I did both. Her kibble stayed a little crunchy...she always gets a little moist with it and I add a little warm water.
The tooth fairy got her these really neat little cloth sticks (actually meant for kittens teething, no they don't have cat nip) and you soak them in water, freeze it and it turns into an ice cube stick! She loves it & just holds it in her mouth on her gums!
i was told by my vet when my puppy was teething to take a rope toy you get in the pet store put it in the freezer and then give it to the puppy that helps with the teething
You can also freeze carrots and give them those. The carrots won't hurt them, may be good for them, and they are cheap. As with anything though, be sure your dog doesn't swallow it whole even though it would be digestable.
