Sudden strange physical symptoms

I have a 4 year old fixed female mixed breed about 35 lbs. She's been fine all day. Now suddnely she's panting heavily, her nose, ears, and foot pads are all warm or hot, her ears are pinned back and her tail is tucked, and she's trembling/vibrating. The tremble is full body and is rapid (about the speed a cat would purr at), but isn't constant (ie., it stops for a second or two then goes again) and doesn't seem to be in pace with her breath rate.

Behavior wise she's mixed. She seems somewhat anxious and is staying close to me or the wife yet doesn't have a problem getting excited, whether to go outside or have a treat. She's eaten and drank normally all day. This has been going on for just under 2 hours.

I plan on taking her to the vet in the morning if it continues. However it is the middle of the night and there is nothing I can do now, so I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction. Any thoughts?

Did something scare her today? My mom's dog does that when she's having a panic attack (from thunderstorms, or whenever my dad runs the air compressor). It could also be pain---look her over for cuts or swelling. Those are the only things I can think of, sorry.

Not really. My 2 year old chased her around a bit today and I had to separate them (he grabbed her tail once and isn't old enough to realize that it would hurt), but that was probably six hours before and she was fine then, plus this has never bothered her before, she's pretty mothering to him at times. I'll check for cuts, maybe she got caught on something.

She's in bed with the wife now and the vet opens in another 8 hrs or so. Thanks for the thoughts though.
