Exclamation urgent - can you ID this pill/supplement?

First off, I've already tried all the normal sources (human and ASPCA poison control, vets, UC Davis vet students, hospitals, 800petmeds, petsmart, etc).

My son got into some old dog medicine in the back of the closet.
He has no symptoms and we just want to make sure he's safe.
The pill is about the size of a dime, tan colored (with black specks) and is clearly heart shaped. There are no other markings, there is no packaging.
I cut one open and it smells like a human vitamin.

We believe, based on research, that it's some type of glucosamine supplement which was given to our lab after knee surgery a few years ago.

If you can ID this item, please let me know asap.

Thanks.

I would first call Poison Control at:

call 1-800-222-1222.

They have resources to identify almost everything.

Re: urgent - can you ID this pill/supplement?

I appreciate the reply, but as per the first line of my post, I already tried that.
No, they don't have the resources to identify almost anything, only things that are identifiable by a marking or a number. That's right, there is no database they can tap that lists all known pills which are heart-shaped and tan.

Anyone have any other ideas?

What happened to the container/packaging these pills were in?

Wouldn't that give you the info you need?

ETA: I just re-read the OP and saw there was no packaging... these pills were just loose on a shelf?

The pills were in a ziplock bag. Our breeder gave them to us after the dog had minor surgery on his elbow (we think). Yes, they should have been labelled, but weren't.

I already called the breeder. People, I've covered all the obvious bases.

The local pharmacist is guessing a prenatal or kids vitamin, both of which my wife says are not correct.

Re: urgent - can you ID this pill/supplement?

Thanks for the digging. I actually have that image open in a tab. Could be, but that's nothing we ever purchased or had heard of.

Nature's Plus makes several vitamins that are heart shaped. I'm going to call them in the AM. At this point, there's not much else we can do.

Thanks.

Mystery solved:

I went to a local store that carries nature's plus products and was able to match the tablet. So, it's not a ped med after all.

Moral of the story:
  • don't put meds in unmarked plastic baggies
  • make sure your kids can't get to said meds or anything dangerous
