Uti?

Rocky started acting really strange today. Yesterday, I was bragging to everyone how it took him 6 days to get 100% housetrained. He hadn't had an accident in 3 days and was going to the door whenever he had to go.

Today, something changed.

When we woke up at about 6:30, I let him out right away and he let the flood gates loose per normal. We came inside and I laid back down and played with him in the bed for a little bit while I was waking up. He was playing and romping, all the sudden just stopped and peed all over the blanket. I brought him out again, and sure enough he went AGAIN outside. We're talking full amount of pee each time, clear as water. It was just like that incident all day long too, he would be playing up a storm and all the sudden stop and pee in places he would never have thought about peeing even on his first day back. As I'm writing this, he just did it AGAIN. I brought him out 5 minutes ago, and he just peed again while playing with his cocker buddy Colby, and when I brought him out he peed outside too...

His energy levels have been great all day, and every time he had to poo (nice solid consistency as well) he stood by the door like normal, just not when he pees. Could this be signs of a UTI, or maybe something worse? I plan on taking him to the vet on Monday, but if there's something I can do in the meantime I'd love to know.

I would think that if it was a UTI hes urin wouldn't be clear rather discolored and/or foul smelling. How old is he? Maybe he is just peing a puppy. Only the vet can tell if it is a UTI though.

He's 9 weeks. I'd chalk it up to just being a puppy, but like I said, until today he was 100% consistent with going outside for about 3 or 4 days. Could be an issue of overwatering though, considering his pee is completely clear every time he goes. I've been free-watering him, and encouraging him to drink pretty often, he's actually learned to drink on command! Maybe I should relax on his hydration a bit, a 10 pound pup really shouldn't need much, eh?

I have three 10-pound dogs and together they drink about a quart per day.

Ok, I'm definitely letting him have too much water then. Just measured the bowl that he drinks out of and he's getting about 40 oz a day, or 1.25 quarts... So yeah, definitely going to dial back the water amount.

Unless your vet says to restrict water, don't do it. The dog could dehydrate.

Pups this age drink huge amounts of water, if they don't want it, they won't drink it.

You have a pup on your hands, if he was house trained in a very short period of time, he is now forgetting things, not uncommon for a pup this age.

You need to back up and start all over in the potty department, and alter the dogs schedule to meet his water intake. In theory, a dog should be able to hold it one hour for each month of age up to about 8 months. In reality, because they drink so much water especially after playing and eating, they just can't and they should go out within a few minutes just to make sure.
