Exclamation Help! What could this be????

I noticed this black sore looking thing today when I was petting the dog. I don't I know it wasn't there a couple of days ago. My first thought was testicle cancer, but now I think it looks more like a sore. We called the emergency vet and they said it might be from allergies or licking and to not to come in but to make an appointment with our regular vet on Monday. I am still very concerned and wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this? It seems to feel uncomfortable when I directly touch the area but other than that the dog is acting normal, playing eating. Should I put anything on it? What could have caused it, he likes to hump a stuffed toy we have could it be from friction burn? Also he sometimes rubs his stomach on the carpet.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

Re: Help! What could this be????

I don't care what the ER clinic says I would be at the clinic in a second especially considering it is a weekend.....I don't like the look of that and it needs to be seen if that were my dog I would call them back and tell them that I am not comfortable wtih how this looks and I want them to take a look at it.

I would take the dog into the ER clinic and let them tell me what it is..... I wouldn't let them tell me that something they havent seen is no emergency ..... when you get there and they say its no emergency then fine... so you wasted a couple bucks but to me
that needs to be seen ASAP

good luck

How old is your dog? Is he neutered? On some breeds of dogs the scrotum looks like this. It is hard to tell from the photo how much irritation is there but it could just be a rub mark. Certainly, if you are very concerned you should always see a vet but if his attitude is fine and the irritation isn't getting worse you could probably hold off. ER's are usually very good about asking the right questions to determine whether something could wait for your regular vet.

Re: Help! What could this be????

He is 3 years old and not neutered, it is definatly on his scrotum and he always had a black spot there. His skin is black and pink all over. He is also prone to dry skin and has a flea allergy. He is on frontline though so it couldn't be caused by fleas. The area at first was dry and cracked looking. I gave him an oatmeal bath and a piece of the black scab came of exposing the pinkish patch you can see on the picture. I put some antibiotic ointment on there. He is not licking the area either. There no drainage anywhere and the skin since seems generally smoother than before. There is no swelling and he doesn't wince or yelp when touched there just pulls away but he generally doesnt like to be touched there.
He has no temperature and all his vitals are normal, like before he is acting as always.
My husband thinks I am overreacting and says thinks it is just a sore. He did call another vet and he too said it doesnt sounds like a sore and to keep an eye on it and go see the regular vet on Monday. It is snowing heavily outside.

Save the money you would spend at the ER and have that dog neutered!!!
Of course, he doesn't like his testicles touched. I don't know a dog that does.
