Lymphoma

Hi. I am a dog owner who tends to pick English Setters. [although we might get a Gordon] Anyway, we've had 2 English Setters die of Lymphoma. That's why we're getting another dog. Does anyone know if E. setters are prone to Lymphoma?

I believe that they are prone to lymphoma....
also there has been a connection between lymphoma and second hand smoke in dogs.....
gordons have other health issues....

my question for you is also whether both your english setters came from the same lines because there is a heretability issue with lymphoma....

lymphoma is one of the few cancers that I would treat for (chemo) as it is one of the more highly treatable and remissions are fairly common.

Thanks. Our dogs did not come from the same line of breeders. One was a rescue dog. My family and I are dedicated dog owners so we checked our house for radon and our water for pesticides. Both tests were negative. We have never exposed our dogs to second hand smoke. We couldn't have done chemo on Pekoe, the dog we just lost. He got really sick all the sudden, the day we found out he had lymphoma is the day he was put to sleep. He got a red eye on Christmas, and the 2 days later, Pekoe was gone. Tomorrow we are going to bury his ashes in his yard so he can forever chase squirrels.

I am sorry to hear this.... it just stinks and at the holidays makes it worse.....
my aunt and uncle breed english setters I will see what I can find out about lymphoma in them.

This is very sad but you did the right thing by not letting your dog suffer. I have not heard of anyone having success with chemo.
