Hair Lost

Hi All,
I have a Jack Russel Terries. I got him when he was 2 months.
Now he’s 6 months old.

When I got him, I bought him for General Body checkup. The vet told me that he does have a sensitive skin.
The sensitive part on his body that makes him hair lost. At the beginning, at mid of August, his body will show hot spots (like a small pimples in red) till he will scratch & bite (from his back can see lots of small holes) on the parts that is itchy. I will stop him when he scratches or bite.
But he does it too much often till I have to see vet at another out let which not the same vet that I bought him for the general checkup.
The Vet told me that there lot of reason that cause him to have hot spot then became hair lost. No specific reason.
This happened again, last few weeks. Hot spots then hair lost.
I bought him to the 1st vet. Was told also might lots of reasons due to his hair lost. I was so upset that both Vets also gave the same reason. I felt so hurt when see my dog in this conditions.
Both Vets gave injection, antibiotic, & 1 more medic like sleeping pills; make my dog sleep so that he will not scratch too much.
The vet told me to observe what course him; but I cannot make the difference also.
The medicine takes about 1 week plus to improved.
Now, he's hair grows back again, much better then the 1st few weeks when the hot spots are at the beginning.
I scare this condition will happen again.

When I got him, I feed in Science Diet lamp & rice formula.
I use the shampoo that the pet shops recommend (for all dog use).I does feed him in Petlac milk, & some dog snack in chicken cubes. Some time I do feed him on apples, oranges & pears, no grapes. I don’t feed him in those cook foods or snacks that we eat .I have not change the entire brand till now. I seldom bring him to the park or even the grass areas.

Any one has any idea how to prevent it?? What courses it??

It's really hard to figure out what causes allergies a lot of times. I would look for a food that is recommended for dogs with allergies. I know of folks that keep their dogs on a low dose of Benedryl (human allergy med) to keep the itching at bay. You could ask the vet about what dose to use there. Cortisone creams for humans can provide short term relief. I would cut out all extra treats, switch slowly to a food for dog with allergies, and see if that helps. If it does then you can add treats back one at a time to see if one of those is the culprit. Good luck!!
