Clear discharge and strong scent.

I have a 7 year old miniature Dachshund that has not been spayed. She's 7.5 pounds. When she was 1.5 years old, she had to have surgery on a couple of her higher discs. She now has Paw Steps ramps for the couch and bed and seems to be in excellent health otherwise. She is very active, and I have put off spaying her because I was concerned she may become less active, gain weight, and have more back problems as she did in her youth.

For her whole life I have noticed from time to time that she has a strong scent, when not in heat. I always considered this normal. I've recently noticed a small clear discharge where she has been lying when she gets this scent. She still behaves like her very active self, but I wondered if this discharge is normal.

Re: Clear discharge and strong scent.

I would say that it is probably nothing to worry about. But if you are concerned, I would call the vet and convey this information to them, and see if they feel a visit is in order.
And never has one of my females become fat after having them spayed. You may have to adjust food and treats if it is impossiable to adjust her activitiy level due to her past injury. But I don't see any reason she could not go on a brisk walk daily.
