| 12 Wk Puppy with Parvo Sam started vomiting yesterday afternoon. She wouldn't eat, and we had to use a syringe to get her to drink. I took her to the vet today, and he asked about diarhea. I told him there hadn't been any. He though it might be a blockage. He took blood to run bloodwork.
When I got her home from the vet (results weren't coming back til tomorrow, so we might as well keep her at home where we can baby her) I took her inside, ran back out to the car to grab the raglan, and when I came back in I could smell it. There was a pile of bloody diarhea in the office. The vet told me to keep giving her gatorade, raglan, and pepto. Tomorrow they will start her on fluids.
Somebody please tell me that they have had a puppy this young survive. Samantha is so perfect. My husband and I are so in love with her, I really don't think we could handle losing her. She is the smartest dog I've ever seen. (We have a pomeranian that's on the other side of that spectrum) This is horrible. I have been crying for the past hour. |

| Re: 12 week old puppy with Parvo I am so sorry to hear about Sam. Yes, I have known a Golden Retriever that made it through Parvo at that young age. She is still alive too. I think she is around 10 years old now. We always called her the miracle dog. She is slightly smaller then her mom was but she was healthy her whole life after Parvo. I hope it goes as well for your Sam. What kind of Puppy is Sam? If you got her from a breeder let her/him know asap so that she/he can let other puppy owners know to get their puppies checked right away and keep an extra close eye on them. |

| Re: 12 week old puppy with Parvo We have had alot of puppies come in with Parvo this year at the clinic where I work; many of them have survived...so it is possible for your puppy to make a good recovery. Good luck! I hope she feels better soon!!!
Keep her hydrated as possible!!! Gatorade is good, but the high amount of sugar is not necessarily 'good' (sugar inhibits the immune system from working for some time after it enters the body-up to four hours actually), so make sure she is getting water as well, or some Pedialyte.

She is a beautiful boxer/springer spaniel (boxspring) shelter baby. I called the shelter and let them know they need to notify the owners of the other 5 puppies. I suspect they won't, though, as they have came across as being incompetent.
I have seen a few things about tamiflu. I will definitely be asking my vet about it tomorrow. |

| Re: 12 week old puppy with Parvo You are right, she is beautiful. I will pray for her. Get your adoption fee back from the shelter and apply it to the vet bills. Good Luck with her. |

| Re: 12 week old puppy with Parvo I am so sorry to hear about that. I will be praying for you and your family. I know exactly what you are going through. I dont want to discourage you but back in march I got a chihuahua and around may he started vomitting a white foamy substance and he wouldnt eat or drink. All he did was lay around. When I called the vet they said it was probably just something he got into and to keep him hydrated(it was the weekend and they couldnt get him in until monday). Well I did that and on monday I took him into the vet and they took a stool sample and confirmed it was parvo. They told me that if I would have caught it sooner he would have made it. So just to let you know take care of it as soon as you can and your chances will be better. I am so sorry and I truely hope the best for you. Please keep us updated. |

| Re: 12 Wk Puppy with Parvo I've never had a dog with parvo, but I've had one with corona at 10 weeks and she survived. Stay hydrated and hopeful. Good Luck |

| Re: 12 Wk Puppy with Parvo Sam is doing exceptionally well. Vomiting started tuesday afternoon. Diarhea started yesterday. I kept her on Pepto, 1.5cc/2 hrs, Reglan, 3cc about every 6 hrs, and at least 3 3cc syringe fulls of pedialyte every hour all through the night. No vomiting, and diarhea was all done outside (she woke me when needing to go), and not too bad. I was starting to wonder if it actually was Parvo because she was doing so well, but this morning she was a strong positive. He thinks my allnighter and constant hydration made a bid difference.
I told him I had researched tamiflu, and the success rate was very high. He googled it while I was there in the office, and said "what the heck, we'll give it a try." He called it in to wal-mart, and $46 later we had it in hand. She vomited on the way home, so I gave her a dose of reglan, then 15 minutes later I gave her the tamiflu, and 45 minutes later, no joke, she was up wagging her tale, playing with our pomeranian, and actually ate a small amount of cottage cheese (what the dr recommended.) Of course, she is back to sleeping again, but still no vomiting or diarhea. Still very well hydrated. I am so relieved. I definitely think she is going to pull through.
I will see how the next couple of days progress, and I will be starting a forum titled "IF YOUR DOG HAS PARVO GET TAMIFLU NOW!!!" Somehow, this word needs to be spread. |

I am glad to hear that your baby is acting better.... now hopefully she can pull through this and it works....
