Older dog craving salt

I've got a 13 year old rottweiller/german shepard mix that is constantly licking on garden sculptures that are inside the house for the salt. What possibilities might have her craving salt?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Older dog craving salt

I would take her to the vet to get bloodwork done. Could be as simple as a mineral imbalance in her food (what do you feed her?) or it could be as serious as kidney issues or diabetes....any other symptoms?

i would also remove her access to the garden sculptures. even if there is no medical condition she might just find them tasty, which could lead to health issues down the road.
