Question Cough/Hacking

Hello!

I've recently welcomed a new puppy into my life. The night I brought him home, I thought he may be coming down with a slight cold. He started to hack a little. The next morning he was hacking a bit more, but this time flem was coming up, but wouldn't spit it out, instead he would just swallow it again. I took him to the vet immediately to get a general health exam for two reasons: a new puppy needs to be checked and because I thought he may have a cold. The doctor said he was a very healthy puppy, but did indeed come down with a cold. I told the doctor of the symtoms that I have been seeing. He perscribed with with antibiotics to help eliminate the bactieria. The antibiotic was perscribed for 10 days. After 10 days have passed, he was not getting any better. So I called the vet again and they perscribed a stronger antibiotic for him to take for 6 more days. The coughing/hacking has gotten better now that the 6 days have passed, but still hasn't completely cleared up. I've noticed the hacking worsens in the evening more so than in the afternoon. I am wondering if I should call the vet again to get another perscription for his coughing? I am wondering if it is kennal cough or what? Thanks for all your help!

Re: Cough/Hacking

has your dog been dewormed? coughing can be a sign of worms.

I would stick with the antibiotic but if it shows no signs of improvement by monday i'd take the puppy to another vet for a second opinion.

I absolutely would call the vet again.... I think 16 days is a long time for kennel cough which is generally like a cold.... however, coughing can be a sign of many things including something caught, heart issues, etc. I am assuming your vet checked for these things but ya know a call to your vet is definitely in order.
