Worms...grooooosssss

Ripley barfed up a worm today that I have identified via the internet as a roundworm. We are seeing the vet at 9:00 in the morning, in the meantime I am beyond disgusted. I feel like every surface in my house is contaminated, and I have that creepy crawly feeling all over my body.

I know it's not that uncommon, really though, I have them on interceptor, I thought that was supposed to prevent roundworms, hookworms and whipworms in addition to heartworm??

Maybe you need to switch them to different wormer for a while.

Re: Worms...grooooosssss

Got em a wormer pill at the vets, incidentally, cheaper than the ones I looked at "over the counter" at petsmart. I only spoke with the tech, not the vet, but she was puzzled as to why there would be worms when they were on interceptor. *shrug*

Is it possible he actually ate a worm outside and then threw it up?

Re: Worms...grooooosssss

It's possible...she didn't actually do a fecal, she said the de-wormer wouldn't hurt them regardless so she just gave them a pill. I was late on their interceptor by a week a couple months ago, but she said that wouldn't do it. The other thing I was thinking is the interceptor I used was for up to 24 lbs and my dog was exactly 24 lbs when I bought it...if he's gained a couple, maybe it isn't strong enough? Even though I am totally freaked out over it, she didn't really seem concerned...

No preventative is 100% effective. Maybe 99.9999999 but not 100.

Ask your vet if they can submit the cost of the dewormer to Novartis (makers of Interceptor). The company stands behind their product, and you should get reimbursed for the cost of the deworming.
