Vestibular disease

I think my Labrador has developed a vestibular disease. I am taking him to the vets later to see what they say. He has had lots of health problems since I had him in June. He is about 13-14 years old. He has suffered chronic ear infections in the past and had infected eyes in the kennels. He had some blood tests which showed he was a bit anaemic and his potassium was high (not addisons disease). He just developed a grade 4 heart murmer and gone on medication for that.
The last 2 nights at about 10pm he has gone really restless and wonuldn't lie down or settle (sleeping is all he ever does!). We noticed last night his eyes we flicking from side to side constantly. He became unstable on his legs and looked really confused. This morning I have noticed hie eyes are still doing it. I called the vet nurse last night who said there was nothing I could do till I saw the vet. Has anyone else had any experience with vestibular disease?

Re: Vestibular disease

It sounds like your dog has "nystagmus" which could be vestibular or neurological. Good luck, keep us posted!

Re: Vestibular disease

Ooh I groom a poodle just like her called Milly. She's adorable!

Thanks for the link. Fortunately Howard is not that severe and I'm hopeful that means he will recover on his own. He had a abx/steroid shot, some antibiotics for the week. We'll see what happens.
