Hi all! New to the forum. Sick dog

I have a 10 yo Brittany (mix?). About six months ago I heard her nails scratch the floor when she walked. I thought it was just that her nails were too long. Well, to make a long story short, she now can't control her left rear leg at all, and has trouble walking, sometimes even walking on the top of it. To top it off, when I came home from work tonight I took her outside, then when I got her inside I noticed that her RIGHT rear paw was bleeding. Apparently she somehow ripped the nail almost off, and it is hanging by a thread. She didn't yelp when it happened, but she sure did when I tried to check it!

She still likes to go for walks, and doesn't act like she is in pain. She still gets enjoyment out of life, and even still a little playful.

I have not slept all night. Will be taking her to the vet tomorrow (er..later this morning). Am so afraid of what the vet might say! Please pray for her.

It really is nothing to worry about. My dogs have done this in the past. The vet just gives them a shot of lydiciane, cuts the nail out and coterizes it with silver niatrate. Just like new in no time at all.

walking on the tops of her feet/dragging her feet indicates that your dog is having problems with proprioception, the knowledge of where her own body is. This can be a nerve problem in the legs or lower spine (trauma, pressure from blown disks, etc).... or even an issue in the brain itself. It is definitely something neurologic. The fact that tearing out a nail, or nearly so, caused no signs of pain is not a good thing. She can't feel her feet! D:

Hopefully the vet will figure things out. >.<
