Cruciate Ligament-TPLO surgery

Has anyone's dog had the TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)surgery? My 114 lb. Labrador Retreiver had a similar surgery yesterday. I couldn't afford the $2,500.00 for the TPLO. I brought her home today. The Vet said she has to be sedentary for 3 weeks and it will take 6 months to heel completely. She is like a bull in a china shop. She has already fallen off her pad she sleeps on and it's only the first day.I don't know how I can keep her calm for 3 weeks! However, I am thankful that I am self employed and work out of my house so I can watch her. I can't imagine going to work and leaving her alone for 9-10 hours. No telling what damage could happen.

Also does anyone feed Royal Canin? She has to go on a diet and my vet suggested Science Diet WD. Howver I am leaning toward the Royal Canin made specifically for Labs. Any thoughts on keeping her calm and feeding the Royal Canin?

Have you talked to your vet about sedatives for the next few weeks? I assume she has not had a full cruciate tear, otherwise rest alone would not help. It is soooooo important you keep her quiet and off that leg as much as possible if you want good results.. And yes, you must get her weight down as much as possible, overweight is a huge factor in this injury. Most major brands of dog food have a weight control or reduction product. I would guess that you don't need to risk diarrhea right now, so I would think you should look into whatever brand you have been using, to their lower calorie food. If you stay with the same brand, you will not be changing her diet as much as going to a totally new brand at this time. Also remember that since she will hopefully be moving around a lot less for now, she will likely need even less than the bag says. Have you gotten a large crate for her? If you want that leg to heal, I would be keeping her in a crate except for potty breaks, for the next 3-4 weeks, its really important.
