| Old lab won't eat after surgery. Hello, my 16 year old lab just had surgery and wont eat.
He is drinking slightly with help.
Any suggestions of what I can give him through a syringe into his mouth?
Gatorade, ensure, boost?
I did not want to put him through surgery at his old age. All I wanted to do is for him to have a good quality of life, but one of the tumors started to bleed. He had surgery Friday, vet removed 3 tumors and one tooth. I brought him home this afternoon. I will call the vet when he opens Monday but until then I think he should get something in his stomach.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

| Well, I think, I said I think not I know, that maybe his mouth hurts from the surgery or he doesn't feel well. I think that's why. I might not be right. |

| Be careful about squirting stuff into his mouth, it could end up going down into his lungs if he weren't ready to swallow. Have you tried some soft dog food out of a can? Maybe try to feed him off a spoon? |

| I tried canned dog food, small pieces of hot dog, chicken with chicken fat. Still not eating.
Woke up this morning and found him in the middle of the cold kitchen floor, he couldn't get up or move and he is shivering.
I put him in his bed and gave him his medicine, crushed the pills and mixed with water and used syringe to squirt in his mouth and followed up with more water, about 1/4 cup. |

| Thank you.
My Charlie boy passed away in my arms this morning...
I feel so lost, I've had him for a third of my life, he was my shadow...
He always slept at the foot of my bed in his doggy bed.
I love you Charlie |

| I am so very sorry to hear of your loss.
Please try to take comfort in knowing he had a very long wonderful life. It's so, so hard, I know. We've all been there. We totally understand your pain.
Hugs to you and yours.
Godspeed sweet Charlie |
