| Totally agree with the above post, but also you should know, that kids and doggie worms are not supposedly a problem with the tapeworms. Its the roundworms ( usual puppy worms ) that is of most concern with children. One vet many years ago explained to me that the way a child would get problems from round worms passed by a dog is if the child was crawling around on the floor, or whatever, crawled through or to the poop, handled it or smeared it on his hands, then put his hands to his mouth. Still, its for sure best to keep the dog dewormed anyway, I would take a sample to the vet for checking, on the other hand they have such good dewormers nowadays, some vets hardly even bother checking nowadays, they just do a good, general deworming. Tapes as mentioned above, can always be a problem since they are connected with fleas. It only takes one flea, and a dog can start shedding tape segments months after he has developed the tapeworm inside, so on going monitoring for tapeworms is a good thing. My understanding also is that with the more adult dog systems, if they have been fully and properly dewormed as puppies, will not be as susceptible to roundworms. Not a guarantee, but a factor to consider. Apparently roundworms do not thrive as well in an adult dog as they do in a puppy, so once they are properly cleaned out they are not as likely to reoccur. |
