Scoots butt but glands are empty

My chihuahua got her anal glands expressed about three weeks ago. I noticed a few days ago that she started scooting again. She had a vet appt today and I asked them to do it again but the nurse said there was nothing there. She's still scooting and now I'm worried b/c her little hiney is red from all the scooting! What else could it be? Is there some kind of lotion/medication I can use for it?

If the glands are really empty, its possible that she is scooting for one of two other reasons, check with your vet on each... if she has recently had loose stools or diarrhea, her anus area could be red and sore from the irritation of that. Also, if a dog has tapeworms, the segments of tape worms can irritate the anus area too. You will not always see other evidence of tapes because they break off now and then, in segments. Some immediately drop off the dog but some may dry up and look like rice grains around the dog's anus. Talk to your vet about that too. If a dog has had fleas, even just once, you could have a tapeworm inside her, the two go together. Don't freak out, its just a pill to give her if that's the situation. Talk to your vet again, and get a bit pushy for some answers...

Thanks so much for the reply! I will definitely be calling my vet. You would think that they would already check for that stuff.
