4 month old puppies have round worms

Hello all,

I am the proud owner of two bull mastiff 4month old puppies. Went to the vet with both and got clean bills of health. Two weeks later found round worms on the garage floor. Have an idea which dog produced them. He is kind of weak and skinny. I used Safeguard on my previous German Shepard that really worked well. I am using the same treatment based on body weight again on both my pups. The veterinary supply store recommended the first treatment over a seven day period to kill the worms and then every six months for three days. After three days of treatment both pups are kind of weak and lazy with warm runny noses and so-so appetites. The worms are
12" long and tough as nails. I tried to blast them off of the cement with a hose, but they clung on and held in place. I can just imagine what they do inside a pups stomach or intestines. Have any of you had this experience?
Please let me know what happened. I will be contacting the vet at the lambriar vet supply store tomorrow.

They need to go back to the vet. When ever a puppy is skinny and weak it's a sign of something is wrong. Round worms can make a dog very sick if left untreated and since they are just getting worse it sounds like time for a vet check.

You don't want them to get dehydrated either. Have they been dewormed yet?

Aww, those poor pups. In my experience whenever I gave my dogs dewormer, they felt better almost immediately. I didn't use the same thing though, I gave it to my dogs once, then again in 1 week. I actually just looked up the Safeguard website and its says give it to your dogs 3 days in a row, not seven. I highly recommend you at least call your vet. Talking to the guy at vet supply really doesn't qualify, unless he's actually gone through all the schooling it takes to become a licensed/practicing veterinarian. Teddy was right too, make sure they are drinking plenty of water. Here's the link to Safeguard, know what you're giving your dogs.....
