Question When do I call it quits.

I am in search of your opinion. I have a 13+ year old dog that is going down hill rapidly. Up until this year she has been relatively healthy and in good condition, but a month ago I took her in for testing, she had a low red blood cell count and an elevated liver enzyme count. With medication, her blood count is back to normal but her liver enzyme count double and is off the scale that the vets lab tests for. Currently she is not suffering or feeling pain, at least not that I can tell, she is eating and goes outside as she needs or wants to. She is also has cateracs and can hardly hear, so I know she is not enjoying life like she used to. She went for a walk today but only went a couple of houses but I think she was out of her comfort zone and it was not me that was walking her. I was going to put her down today but called it off, I think she still has life in her (without suffering or being in pain). She sleeps a lot and sometimes I think she either has no will to get up or no energy.

Re: When do I call it quits.

You let her go when you know, in your heart, that she would chose it if she could tell you herself.

There are so posts on the memorial forum from people, including me, who have dealt with that decision and they might give you some insight.

But don't think of it as "calling it quits." There will reach a point where letting her go is the ultimate kindness.
