My poor baby is wearing the cone :(

My dog was spayed yesterday. I was hoping to avoid the dreaded cone but she was constantly licking so now she has it on. I feel terrible for her. She seems so uncomfortable in it. She's pacing around trying to get it off or she just stands there with her tail between her legs looking SO sad. Is there anything I can do to make this better for her? I can't imagine 2 weeks of this. I'm hoping in a few days it will hurt/itch less and maybe I can take it off. My poor baby!!

TibetanFan, don't worry...she'll get use to it! My baby had eye surgery and the Dr's orders were cone on for 1 mos. He's had it on for 2 weeks now and seems perfectly fine with it, it's just a matter of getting used to the cone. If you want to give her a break, take it off when she's eating or when you have her on ur lap. It's better that she feels uncomfortable wearing it then having to bit off the stitches. Good luck!

Re: My poor baby is wearing the cone :(

talk to your vet. My dog had an ear canal ablation and they put a soft cardboard cone on to keep him from scratching his ear. It was much easier for him to sleep in. Also, they gave him Benadryl to help take the edge off, and when that stopped working they gave me acepromazine. He slept a lot for that week and a half, but as salask said, you can try taking the cone off while she's eating or sitting with you. They may also be able to give you a safe topical cream that would semi-numb the area and reduce the pain/itching. Good luck.
