Soar on abdomin?

My dog has some sort of a soar on her abdomin. It seems to have puss in it when I look at it. The last 2 days I've been puting this antimicrobial wound cream my friend gave me on it. Its not big at all, about 1/4 the size of a penny. It does kind of scare me though because its on this hard lump under her skin. My mother told me the lump could be a hernia or somthing, and it was nothing to worry about. My vet had a differnent opinion, he said it could be scar tissue from when she was spayed, but again he said it was nothing to worry about. So my question, what could this be(the soar)? Can I wash it with rubbing alchol before putting the cream on? I realize it would sting badly but it would certainly sterolize whatever it is. Can I continue to use this cream? Is there any way to tell how long it might take to heal? It hasnt gotten better in the last 2 days...might she be licking it making it worse? If so how do I get her to stop?

I know I ask alot of question and im sorry, but I'm a very inexperianced dog owner if you cant tell.

I'll start by telling you it's better to ask a lot of questions than none at all. Just keep that in mind and never apologize for asking a question.

With out a picture or actually seeing it there is no way of being able to say what it is. Where on her abdomin?

It very well could be from her being spayed, but if there is puss that is a sign of infection. That's not good at all and it needs to be taken care of with antibiotics. One of my fosters got an infected spay and it too two weeks to heal, but I had to take her in to get it flushed and medications for it. Also licking can irritate the wound.

It could be a number of other things though. Does she act as if it hurts when you touch it?

Re: Soar on abdomin?

Well, she had the lump before I got her, her spaying has been completly healed, I was just simply stating that the "soar" is on top of the odd lump. Before the soar appeared, she pays no mind to the lump, you can press on it, move it around, she shows no signs of behing in pain from it. As for the soar, she doesnt seem to be bothered by it too much, even while im putting on the cream she just sits there...but I havent tried cleaning it really, other than with a damp cloth.(no peroxide or rubbing alc)

Ok to describe it a little better and maby a little...grosly. Have you ever had a scab that wasnt ready to come off, and somehow or another it got ripped of, and left a sort of "crater" looking wound? thats what it looks like. I might try to take a pic tomorrow, but all I have is that crappy phone on my camera, which takes horrible pictures, so you may not be event able to see the wound, as its not real big.

Re: Soar on abdomin?

Do you think because it's ontop of this "knot" it seems like it's more that it really is? The knot/lump probably is car tissue from being spayed it happens a lot of the time and never goes away.

I wouldn't use anything to harsh on it now, just try to keep it clean with a wet rag and keep puting the cream on it. I'm talking if she goes outside and plays; when she comes in clean it. If she's rolling on the ground afterwards clean it. Before bed clean it and put the cream on it. Every day and keep an eye on it.

If it does get any worse I'd take her in, but because it's ontop of the knot and your vet isn't to worried I wouldn't be.
