what kind of skin problem?

i have a seven month old schnauzer. i used to bathe him twice a week. i can always feel some tiny seed like scabs(?) on the skin. sometimes on the head, or near the ears. but it always goes off after a week or so.

he got his fur cut real short three weeks ago. since its real short i do not bathe him that frequent anymore. probably once in two weeks.

he develop some weird brownish spots like those seed scabs i mentioned on his stomach. and it bothers me cause i am afraid if i don't do anything by now it will get worse.

he does not itch or stratch any part of his body. so i don't think it's an allergy.

what chould it be? what's the cause and how to cure?

please help!

Unless your dog get's into a lot of dirt, you are bathing him to much and drying out his skin.

I have three large dogs, they get bathed about every three months.

Hi sorry to hear about your dog.

Firstly, my puppy had what sounds like the little scabs on him; it was actually because he has fleas; are you sure your dog doesn't have fleas?

And I definitely wouldn't wash him that often; the scabs may be due to dry skin, and washing him that often may be too much. At the most I'd do once a month; like the member before me said 3 months even is fine.

You might want to take him to the vet and let them see what you are describing. They can actually diagnose health problems.

Many breeds are pre-disposed to certain health conditions. If you haven't already seen a vet for this problem, you need to. Bathing an adult dog more than once a month for maintainence is too much...you dry out their skin and can cause skin problems...it also depends on the quality of dog shampoo you use, what kind of flea control you use and how often and whether it's water resistent. Also, scabs can indicate mange...one variety of which is contagious to other animals and to people, and is also known as scabies. The other variety is hereditary, and if the animal gets it the animal should be neutered. It also could be food allergy or some kind of environmental allergy.

Basically, stop letting your poor dog suffer with this continual skin issue and see your vet for resolution...for your dog's sake.
