Dangers of Flea Bombs???

Hi, all. Husband and I decided that we must bomb to get rid of fleas at our new house. I am concerned because we live in 2nd/3rd floor of duplex and neighbors have young kid. According to my husband, we don't need to tell them we're bombing, we just need to seal vents & cold air returns with newspaper and duct tape and then duct tape doorways before leaving. We planned on doing it when they weren't home. But I'm still a little concerned. We don't want to tell them because they're jerks and we just moved in, don't want to be like, "Hey - we brought fleas with us, hope you don't mind..."

Does anyone know if he is correct about the bombs permeating downstairs? I mean, the packages say to use one on every floor, so they probably don't permeate THAT badly, do they? Can we do this and seal off the house so the neighbors won't be exposed?

Re: Dangers of Flea Bombs???

Sorry I don't know much about flea bombs so I can't answer your question. BUT I really think you should tell your neighbors you are doing this if you share the air circulation with them. I know you might feel like a jerk for bringing fleas, but you'll feel like more of a jerk if their kid has to go to the hospital because of an athsma attack or something like that. Just tell them that you'll be bombing and you will be taking every precaution so that they're not exposed, but you'd like to be extra careful and do it when they go out and won't be back for a few hours. They should appreciate your honesty.

Re: Dangers of Flea Bombs???

Cosidering the flea bomb can potenialy kill thier kid or any pets they have in thier home I think it would be best to tell them. All of you also have to stay out of the house for a good couple of hours, you'll have to check the exact time on the can. And if I remember correctly from when we flea bombed my house a good decade ago, you also have to turn your pilot light off so you don't blow up the house. Myth busters did an episode on the bug/flea bombs, but there is documented eveidence that they can blow up your house if used improperly.

I am in the Property Management field. Even the Pest Service we use to professionally treat fleas with bombs do not like to use them. You are forgetting that the powder will be all over and in everything you own. It is never a good idea...
