Confusing dog gas...?

My dog will get gas everynow and then, but check out this situation..He's german shephard mix, so I think heredity. But, this problem has only started over the last 6 months when we moved to our new house. I guess before I go into all of this let me explain his symptoms other than gas. He first will not eat for a day, then will have terrible stomach-intestinal noise that last for about 12 hours, he will just lay around and look pathetic, then the gas- the most horrible gas(the next day) then it's gone. And it may not happen again for 1 week maybe 2 or longer.
First, I give him Iams food for a sensitive digestive system- he's been eating it for about 3-5 months, before that was 'One'. I eliminated the idea that maybe friends/family were giving him table scraps. He eats nothing but his dry dog food. Then I thought car rides were making him sick, he never liked car rides, as they made him queasy(not sick though). But, eliminated that because we hadnt gone anywhere for awhile. Then I wonder about him drinking water from the small stream at our new house, he only wanders over there when he's out of my sight. Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

Suz, have you talked to your vet about this? I would, and be sure to limit his exposure to that stream, you don't know what toxins may be flowing in that. He may also be disagreeing with the food. Just because a food is a " good " one, does not mean your particular dog agrees with it. I do not want to scare you, and your dog is a mix, but there is a condition in many large breeds which can lead to death. It is gastric torsion. It is highly unlikely in a mix, but it can happen. Dogs who have digestive problems serious enough to get torsion, often precede the final bloat, and in fact, all their bloat and digestive problems, with gas. Having said that, there are many dogs who have lots of gas who never bloat...He should be checked out thoroughly, and talk to your vet about the food, I suspect you have to change it. Good luck.
