Lymes Disease

Hi y'all... I am new to the forums. It's nice to have found this place

I'm not sure if anyone can help me.... I could use any advice I can get! My husband and I adopted a 4yr. old ADORABLE abused boardie collie mix from a local shelter. He is sooo wonderful, but unfortunately got sick with lymes 2 weeks after he was home with us. We caught it pretty quickly and after 3 rounds of antibiotics, the soreness in his joints subsided.

My question is, can he continue to have flare-ups even after he was treated? Does the disease continue to get worse or can dogs live happy, healthy lives after being diagnosed? My vet has really rushed us through our appointments and I havent gotten a whole lot of answers.

Sorry if I seem worried! I am! I feel like a worried momma!

Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure about dogs but according to some research of the disease in humans, people still tend to suffer the effects of lyme disease years after they get it cured. I remember a news report or one of those 60 minutes type report where people still suffered memory loss and joint weakness years after they caught and cured lyme disease. It wasn't even in the old, sick, or you some of the people were in the prime of their life. So i don't know if the dog might have problems further down the line.

I wish i had the cure for you but im not a vet, but i wish you luck, and i think you should go back to the vet and demand a cure rather the outcome/answer!

This is the exact reason why keeping your pets up to date on vaccinations is so important! An ounce of prevention.....Here in the midwest, ticks are horrible this year. Keep tick preventative on your dog and vaccinate yearly for Lyme, especially if your dog is frequently outside.

Re: Lymes Disease

I know for my horses who have lyme they have to take meds for 8 weeks because they are finding out that they needs more time on on the meds otherwise it comes back and all my dogs have had lyme and had to be on them for 8 weeks otherwise it came back. I had lyme and my son to but after my first set of pills I was fine and so was my son

My dog was vaccinated and still got the disease. The vaccine is actually quite controversial and I will not be giving it to Cherokee again.

Oops, sorry about posting on a really old thread!
