Fractured Shoulder

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site, and I'm hoping someone can give me some insight. My 7 month old lab has fractured her shoulder. Well, it's actually part of the leg bone. (Don't remember the name; should have paid more attention in biology). It's the bone that goes to the shoulder. The part at the top (rounded area) is fractured. My vet referred us to a specialist. We saw our vet yesterday and was diagnosed. We drop her off at 8 tomorrow. However, I know nothing about the surgery except that they will need to put a screw in it.

I guess my questions are...has anyone had to deal with this? Anyone know the recovery time? Anyone know what I should expect?

I'm really nervous and stressing over it. I love my pup, and I'm so worried.

She's my hiking partner.

The best answers will come from your doctor in the morning but this might help. My sister's dog needed a screw and a pin (not sure what they did) in her hip and she was on her feet (with a cast) in a few days and without the cast in what seems to be about 6 weeks. Dogs are much better with this sort of thing than we are so you souldn't worry too much. Good luck.

Yes, it was me. I haven't been able to find out any information on the web, so I am looking everywhere I can for advice. I'm in freak out mode today.
