Pug- problem w/soft palate

Occassionally, my dog starts choking on what my vet says is his soft palate. He is against surgery and says I should try to keep my dog calm and he will stop. Usually, it lasts for 5 minutes, but yesterday he was up all night. Does anyone have any suggestions? My dog is not overweight...Thanks.

Try to take her to a different vet to get another opinion. Maybe the first vet missed something.
