Update on Henry

This morning I woke up at 4:30AM to Henry hacking up a white, foamy substance. I got to the E-Vet at 5:30AM and they immediately took him back. The good news is that Henry doesn't have a collapsing trachea like the vet thought. I was actually pretty peeved that the vet hadn't determined what was going on at the time. Henry has kennel cough. They think it's a mild case but I bought antibiotics for him anyway because I want to help him avoid pneumonia. I'm happy it's not a collapsing trachea but I am disappointed in my vet. I even brought a video in with me when I was there on Monday of Henry coughing. She said it could "be a lot of things and to come in next week for a diagnosis." I thought, okay, this must not be serious if she's so relaxed about it. Thinking back on it I really think they were just so busy that night that she wanted to get me out of there as fast as possible. I want to switch vets now. They also told me that when Henry had worms that he DIDN'T have worms after doing a fecal float...well they didn't show up because they were tapeworms...Henry had a bloated stomach and wasn't eating or drinking...they made me sound like a crazy person for coming into the E-Vet that time. Okay...now I'm ranting...sorry It's just frustrating because I don't feel like the vet really gave him the appropriate care that he deserves (and that I pay for. A regular exam is $60).

I'm taking him back to the vet in a few days for a check-up to make sure he isn't developing pneumonia.

Thanks for listening

-Andrea

kennel cough mistaken for collapsing trachea?

I'm sorry to hear the you had to go through all of that. I wish Henry a speedy recovery. I also wish you luck in finding a good vet, they tend to be hard to locate.

I know, that was my reaction as well. I had to bite my tongue to ensure I wouldn't get pushy with the e-vets. I am sick to death of having to deal with incompetence where there shouldn't be any. I'll be looking at smaller scale vets in the area. I think part of the problem is that the vet I go to is HUGE...and very impersonal. There is one close to me that seems pretty good but they don't have an e-vet.

I guess the coughing is similar but you'd think a vet would be able to determine between the two. I am very glad it turned out to be kennel cough
