Problems with Greyhound

Hi, I'm new to this forum!!
Help!
I have a three year old Greyhound who has always struggled with Dandruff. Actually all my Greyhounds have always had somewhat of an issue with it. Today I was petting him and I noticed that it isn't Dandruff anymore. His skin along his back is red and there are sores, and he has some scabs. The Dandruff stuff is alot different, maybe it is scabs of some sort? Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking fur mites, although I have never had a problem with them before. He is eating and drinking fine, and hasn't been scratching or anything.
I appreciate any advice.

Hi...I have 4 greyhounds. It sounds like dry skin, but without a picture I can't be sure. Do you supplement him with fish oil or add olive oil to his food? Both of these things should help. I'd recommend visiting Hound Talk - it's dedicated to sighthounds, which are very different from other dogs both inside and out!
