| Allergies??? Please help!! My pup Scout (5 months old, spayed) has many tiny red bumps on her tummy and under her legs. She is quite itchy and scratches like crazy. They are not puss-y, just pink (probably from all the scratching). No fleas, no hair loss. Vet said they might be allergies, might just be a rash.
Does this sound like allergies? The fact that it is localized in one area (not all over her entire body) leads me to think that it's not her food, but something in her surroundings (maybe her bedding, bugs, grass...). Maybe it is related to the heat? I don't know what to do, I hate seeing her uncomfortable. The vet said to give her one Benadryl. But obviously I want to find the root of the problem. I'll start by removing her bedding and see if it clears up...
Any thoughts/experiences? |

| My pug has terrible skin allergies. He develops "hot spots" where his skin is affected, it's not an all over thing. He also licks his paws a lot when he's having a flare up. Some dogs, like mine, have seasonal allergies. |

| Skin problems from allergies My dog has seasonal allergies which causes skin irratations. After a few years of trying all the usual recommended remedies - special shampoo, hydrocortizone sprays, antihistimines as well as allergy shots - all which did nothing, we found a great product to ease the skin symptoms. Sprinkle Bismolene Medicated Powder on regularly (daily), and the itchiness and sores heal very quickly. What a relief! Check is out at www.bismolene.com and purchase it from Lehman's - Products for Simple, Self-sufficient Living for only $3.95. It works for people, too! |

BOTH my cat and my dog have MASSIVE allergies. In my cats case, it's life threatening. My dog gets hives, her face swells, her skin gets RED, she shakes her head, she's just miserable.
She takes 6 Benadryl a day for that. 3 in the am, 3 in the pm. Prednisone has WAY better results, but it's expensive, and there are side effects. (There's another thread on this) |

| I have a related situation myself (my main reason for seeking out these forums). My dog, Vladimir (a German Shepard/ Akita mix) is 7 going on 8. He has taken to chewing his paws and scratching himself bloody. So far he has gotten one "hot spot" on his back that we took him to the vet for and got treated (the shave and ointment). It seemed to work for a while, but now he is back at it. He has scratch a small-ish spot raw on his face and chewed on bloody at the base of his tail.
Now the most confusing part of it is that he only seems to do this while we are gone. It is making my wife think that it might be a behavioral issue. I am still on the fence. My wife is currently 7 & 1/2 month pregnant with our first child, so I can imagine that there might be some anxiety for him on that front.
Anyone have any insight about this? The vet has done a thyroid test that came back on the low side of average. Apparently thyroid issues can be masked as allergies.
Thanks for any info that anyone can provide. |
