Dog Pee Colour?

Sorry, but I always seem to be asking 'stupid' questions. As a kid growing up in Eastern Canada we always had a saying, 'Don't eat yellow snow', for obvious reasons.

IS dog pee always yellow? My pup doesn't seem to drink very much water (though he certainly does pee a fair amount) but I suppose he gets the moisture from his wet dog food.

His pee is always yellow. Does this mean he is a bit dehydrated?

Re: Dog Pee Colour?

Usually the darker yellow the urine, the more concentrated the urine is. Sometimes when a dog drinks lots and lots of water their urine will be light yellow to clear. It varies from dog to dog, as dogs diets, activities & schedules vary. And, there is no such thing as a stupid question. How else is a person to learn.

Re: Dog Pee Colour?

In my experience, dog pee is almost always yellow, usually a medium yellow, but sometimes pale or even almost orange. When its not, its usually because the dog has been drinking a LOT of water, due to heat, fluids in the hospital, side effects from medicines like prednisone, or diabetes.

Re: Dog Pee Colour?

I've seen pee in colors ranging from almost clear, light yellow, deep amber (like beer), bordering on a greenish yellow (like Mountain Dew), and in very sick dogs and cats, blood red and even burgandy colored. When my kidney failure cat had a urinary infection, her normally almost clear urine had a pinkish tinge.

Normally, it's in the yellow family. If it's not, get a sample to your vet.

Re: Dog Pee Colour?

OK, thanks. I just wanted to be sure his pee was supposed to be a shade of yellow. He doesn't drink a lot of water but he still pees quite a bit so he must be drinking when I'm not looking.

Thanks again.
