| Im so sad...my cat....is... Afraid of men !! It is official now and I have to try and fix it. How could one guy make my cat deathly afraid of all men?? I dont know how to fix this, the one guy that comes over here occasionally hasnt taken this seriously when I tell him she is very afraid of him. He thinks its funny.
Lily hides in the hole in our kitchen, and meows a sad scared meow anytime men come over .
I was hoping it was just that one guy, but the maintenance guys came to check the apartment this morning and Lily hid in her hole and meowed, and when they left she came out and slincked over under the couch.
What do I do!
ETA: Normally when these same maintenance men come over Lily is walking around the house or watching them.

Ali | No I think I would rather she was protective then I would just be dealing with aggression but fear is harder for me to deal with. And she is definatly fearful. She hides and if I take her out she gets those giant pupils and her eyes look big and scared. She also looks around like shes paranoid and she jumps if any loud noises are made. |

| Re: Im so sad...my cat....is... That's terrible. I feel so bad for Lily...Both of my cats don't like strangers. Max has a real intense dislike for children, I don't know why. They always run upstairs and hide. I've never really tried to correct it though. It's weird to me that she is just afraid of men. Did it just happen suddenly, or has it always been that way with her? I'm not really sure how to help though... |

| Re: Im so sad...my cat....is... I had a cat once that was afraid of everyone, even me. He was wild. He liked to come into the house to eat but would not let anyone touch him. When he laid under the wood heater I would just lay beside him and talk to him without touching him. Eventually he let me touch his feet and then the rest of him until he would come sit in my lap. But then he would scoot away if anyone else came into the house so My husband had to make friends with him. A little fish goes along way with cats too. If you get a guy that has time and patience and tell him your problem, maybe he can sit beside the cat and just hold some fish or leave some fish behind. Even just a mouthful. Eventually your kitty might come around. It just takes time and lots of lovin'. |

Joesph (the guy) just started coming over because he is friends with my sister. He is really crazy and jumpy, Lily is kinda used to this because thats how I am but Joesph is 2 times as crazy and jumpy as I am! So Lily was a little wary of him at first. But then Joesph noticed that Lily would flinch anytime he moved fast and he thought it was funny so he started to do it for fun.
And then one day he sprinted down the hall at Lily and Lily ran away and hid. All the time im telling him to STOP! But does he listen? NO!
And now anytime he comes over Lily goes straight to the hole and crys because shes scared! And I almost cry because shes never been this scared in her life! I have never heard her meow like that before and if you heard it you would agree it sounds like shes crying! Quote:

Joesph has given Lily some fishy treats before and Lily was a little nervous but she took it and was ok with it. I think I will have to be extra strict from now on when Joesph comes to my house. |

| Re: Im so sad...my cat....is... Well, I don't know much about cats, but when a DOG'S scared of something, I would ignore him and act as interested in whatever he's scared of (In this case, the man...I guess you'll have to talk to the man beforehand and let him know why you're so interested in him...lol!) Usually, well, you know the saying, Curiousity killed the cat! (Or in this case, breaks the fear) |
