| Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! So I looked up 'guinea pig breeders' just out of curiosity...
DID YOU KNOW THEY MAKE GUINEA PIGS LIKE THIS??
This one is called a 'White Crested'! =D
I am AMAZED. These are the coolest little guys! More galleries of purebred piggies are here. |

Sadly, the first one has hair rather like mine when I first wake up in the morning... |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! We had 2 like the 2nd one with the swirls, just different color. I've seen them, in person, look like all of those except the first one that is curly. |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! Yeah, they're for real. Most people that have them as pets though, keep their hair trimmed shorter than that. The 1st one is a Texel, the 2nd an Aby (like my Chewie <3 ...he's part Aby) and the 3rd... I'm pretty sure is a Coronet.
My boys are both mixes...I'd love to have a Teddy one day though, they are my favorite, they remind me of a fuzzy caterpillar, Peruvians are cute too, I'm not sold on the grooming though, Chewie gives me enough of a hassle already. |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! The first one I had no idea, but I can believe the others. In your second picture, we just got a GP where I work that looks exactly like that but he's brown. We've begun to call him Chaos. |

It would be so hilarious to see one scurrying across the floor. |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! Yup. =P
The second pig is called an abyssinian, the third is a peruvian, the fourth is an English...I'm assuming the first is a type of peruvian. Hadn't SEEN a curly peruvian like that, but I'm not surprised. =3
Show guinea pigs!
The peruvians (long hair) need a lot of grooming work, of course. >_< |

They remind me very much like the old Star Trek 'Tribble' episode. Quote: |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! You probably could, but...I wouldn't. =P I mean, how would you know if the braid was too tight and pulling on the skin, or what if they got their braids caught on stuff? I would just trim the hair, as most people do, if I ever had one.
Ahahaha, tribbles. =3 |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! I bred my guinea pigs twice (for a local pet store) And I had nappy, tight curled ones. They came out black and gold so I sold them as steeler pigs. I had another litter that had punk spiked hair that stood straight up. I SHOULD have taken pics. The customers that bought them said they were the BEST pigs. Probably because I bottle fed them (hee hee) and handled them all the time. They were sweet. I should have started my own buisness. Oh well. I got rid of them all.
And that long hair....expect to brush them and occassionally bathe them to get that hair looking great. They are an easy to care for pet, but they take time just like anything else and thats why I got rid of the lot. |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! Here's a massive bun. I think these guys are bred as a food source, which makes me sad. I'd love to have one to hang out with.
Imagine trying to pull one of these out of a hat. |

| Re: Are These Guinea Pigs FOR REAL?! My olderr son and I breed show bunnies... french lops, flemish giants and netherland dwarfs. We go to shows and actually have grand champion pedigree'd rabbits.
Here's a pic of my 13 year old with our GC Flemish giant chachi (not quite as huge as the continental giant in the other pic but still the largest variety recognised in the US)
and one with out my son
BTW that turtle pool behind him is about 6 feet long by 4 feet wide if that gives you any size idea. He weighs about 17 pounds!
and my french lop Marilyn with her Best of Breed trophie
This is one of our new breed we're trying to develop called a velveteen netherland... a cross of a mini rex (which has velvet fur) and a netherland dwarf. Both have AWESOME docile temperaments and are the perfect pet for any age. |
