kitty acne

Butch has what I think is called Kitty Acne. His Chin gets very dirty looking. lots of small black crusties make is look kinda brownish in color. I usually trim the fur on his chin with her grooming shears and then scrub his chin with a cloth and mild soap to try and get rid of it.

Any one have any tips for me?

Re: kitty acne

If you are using plastic bowls try using stainless steel.

Re: kitty acne

It's funny, I just posted something about feline acne on another thread. My cat had it, and I used oxydex shampoo on his chin once a day, and it cleared up. I don't know whether you can get it w/o a prescription or not, but you should check it out. You could also try using dish-washing soap on it every day, to de-grease it. Just make sure it's only on his chin, because it's pretty drying.

If you can't get rid of it, you might end up having to switch to wet food (assuming you feed kibble). Kibble is kind of greasy, and that can cause it.

Re: kitty acne

He is a free feeder. does anyone know of any ceramic or Stainless steel food dispensers? Wet food is not an option since he is free fed he would likely leave it to sit and get rancid.

Re: kitty acne

I can't recall where I read it but pastic dishes tend to hold bacteria. As for ceramic or stainless steel food dispensers maybe phone some pet stores?
